Regulatory & Compliance Updates
2026 Safety & Compliance Standards.
1. Mandatory ALM State Licensing: July 1, 2026
-
The Law (HB 874): Completing the 80-hour training and holding an OHCQ certificate is no longer enough. All active ALMs in Maryland must be formally licensed by the State Board of Long-Term Care Administrators (SBLTA).
-
Compliance Requirement: Any individual practicing as an ALM after July 1, 2026, without an active SBLTA license will be in violation of state law.
2. Child Abuse & Neglect Reporting: January 1, 2027
-
The Law (HB 1034): Effective July 1, 2026, updated reporting training is mandatory for designated reporters every two years.
-
Grace Period: Providers actively employed on July 1, 2026, have six months to complete the updated curriculum, making January 1, 2027, the final deadline.
-
The CEU Bundle Advantage: Combine your mandatory biennial 20-hour continuing education (including infection control) with child abuse reporting training to satisfy both state requirements simultaneously.
